Visual Arts Editor

EcoTheo Review, a quarterly print and online magazine of literature + arts focusing on ecology and theology, seeks a Visual Arts Editor to support our publication and community. The Review is an integral part and flagship publication of the EcoTheo Collective, an arts nonprofit that extends its influence through a regular reading series (LOGOS) and an annual literary festival (Wonder). 

We publish original essays, fiction, poetry, visual arts, reviews, interviews, and scholarship, exploring intersections of nature, spirituality, and social justice. We are delighted by innovative, original, thoughtful work that reflects our values of curiosity, justice, and community. In addition to curating work from contributors, editors are invited to contribute editorials, e.g., essays, literary criticism, reviews, and interviews related to their genre.

This is remote, volunteer position has an average time commitment of 2-4 hours per week, perhaps more during open submission periods.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and respond to ongoing calls for visual arts submissions via CaFE and Submittable.

  • Solicit, curate, and select visual art submissions for print and online publication at our intersection.

  • Provide editorial guidance to contributors, including best practices and standards for print and online optimization.

  • Consult with other editors about the magazine's goals and needs.

  • Promote the magazine's visual arts content through social media and other channels.

  • When feasible, represent the magazine at events.

Digital Community Coordinator

EcoTheo Review, a quarterly print and online magazine of literature + arts focusing on ecology and theology, seeks a Digital Community Coordinator to support our publication and engage with our community. The Review is an integral part and flagship publication of the EcoTheo Collective, an arts nonprofit that extends its influence through a regular reading series (LOGOS) and an annual literary festival (Wonder).

We publish original essays, fiction, poetry, visual arts, reviews, interviews, and scholarship that explore the intersections of nature, spirituality, and social justice. We are delighted by innovative, original, thoughtful work that reflects our values of curiosity, justice, and community.

This volunteer, remote position has an average time commitment of 10-15 hours per month

Responsibilities

The Digital Community Coordinator is a visual creator who will be responsible for translating the magazine’s print and digital presence into a vibrant online presence. Key tasks include:

  • Share all new work appearing on our website across social media, to include Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky, and X, ensuring each post honors the contributor’s voice and perspective. 

  • Utilize the magazine’s rich visual arts archive to create a cohesive and aesthetically grounded feed, coordinating with the Layout Designer, Web Editor, and Editor-in-Chief on visual assets.

  • Coordinate with our Web Editor to ensure a uniform, simultaneous publication and social media presence. 

  • Craft captions and copy that adhere to the EcoTheo style guide, maintaining a balance of professional editorial standards and the magazine’s specific voice.

  • Develop imaginative, high-engagement content—such as weekly threads, spotlight series on archive work, or visual-poetic pairings—that invites our audience into deeper reflection on ecology and theology.

  • Actively engage with our community of readers and artists, celebrating the accomplishments of previous contributors and the work of our editorial team.

  • Amplify the Collective’s broader reach by promoting appearances, LOGOS readings, and the Wonder festival.

  • Utilize the magazine’s rich visual arts archive to create a cohesive and aesthetically grounded feed.

You might be a good fit for this role if you:

  • Are passionate about ecology, spirituality, and art, and maintain a personal practice in one or more of these fields.

  • Possess an artistic eye for digital media and able to write complementary copy that is concise and evocatively imaginative.

  • Have familiarity or experience engaging with online arts, literary, or faith-based communities on social media platforms.

  • Understand contemporary visual arts practices and can translate them into compelling digital formats (Reels, Carousels, etc.).

  • Have strong communication skills and a meticulous eye for detail regarding our style guide and branding.

  • Are devoted to nature and committed to caring for places and creatures.

  • Enjoy being part of an active, collaborative editorial team.

Web Editor

EcoTheo Review, a quarterly print and online magazine of literature + arts focusing on ecology and theology, seeks a Web Editor to support our publication and community. The web editor will use Squarespace to maintain the EcoTheo Collective website, publish EcoTheo Review content, promote Collective events and online publications, and help bring special projects to life online, including virtual and in-person programming and our digital archive. Some experience with Squarespace or other web publishing platforms, as well as with Adobe Creative Suite, is preferred.

This volunteer, remote position has an average time commitment of 3-5 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Regularly publish content, including poems, prose, interviews, essays, and visual art, to EcoTheo Review online.

  • Curate the visual flow of the homepage to reflect the seasonal or thematic shifts of the Collective, ensuring a harmonious balance between text and art.

  • Keep the EcoTheo Collective event calendar up to date.

  • Create graphics for the website homepage, Review, and other web pages.

  • Work in concert with the EIC, Managing Editor, and Social Media Coordinator to maintain a consistent narrative thread across our digital platforms, ensuring our web content and social outreach feel like a single, cohesive invitation into the Collective’s work.

  • Create new pages and update existing pages for EcoTheo Collective programs and publications, as needed.

  3. Have strong web design and development skills.
